Dear Madam/Sir,

Having chosen the motto “Europe without Barriers” the Czech Presidency of the European Union wishes to express its will to remove or diminish the remaining obstacles between EU Member States which inhibit exploitation of the full potential of individual countries and their citizens.

For that reason, the Czech Presidency welcomes the new European initiative in the youth field which will be formally reflected in the official Commission´s Communication on the new framework of cooperation in the youth field, expected to be released on 27th April. This and other relevant background documents (conclusions of previous Youth Events, conclusions of Youth Week, Council documents etc.) will form the basis of the forthcoming Czech Presidency Youth Event.

The Youth Event represents one of the biggest events aimed at the young people actively engaged in voluntary work at national as well as European levels. The Czech Youth Event will seek to finalize the evaluation process of the framework of cooperation in the youth field and to trigger the discussion on the future framework of cooperation. This aim is consistent with the priorities of the Czech Presidency in the youth field. The main instrument for the evaluation of framework of cooperation in the field of youth which the Czech Republic would like to use is the process of the Open Method of Coordination.

The Czech Youth Event will be organised as an international conference of young people and will comprise plenary sessions and working groups. One hundred and twenty young people from all Member states, candidate and EFTA countries as well as international non-governmental youth organizations are expected to attend the conference.
