Břevnov monastery (Czech: Břevnovský
klášter) is a Benedictine monastery in Prague. It was founded by Prince
Boleslav II and Saint Adalbert (Sv. Vojtěch), bishop of Prague in 993 AD. It
was the first friary in Bohemia.
The buildings standing today, including St Margaret's church, the conventual buildings and prelate's house, date from the 18th century and have been built in the Baroque style by Kilián and Ignatz Dientzenhofers, Petr Brandl and K.J. Hiernle.
In the 50´s of XX. Century was monastery (as the others in Czechoslovakia) confiscated by communistic power. The abbot Anastáz Opasek was imputed and spent 50´s in jail. After Velvet revolution 1989 renewed Benedict community repaired the monastery and celebrated 1000 years in 1993. Pope John Paul II gave by this occasion the titel of Achabbey to the monastery.
Martinic Palace (Czech:
Martinický palác) is a part of Prague landmark reservation registered
on UNESCO list. The main front faces the Hradčanské square, where e.g. new
american president Obama held his big public speech about the reduction of
nuclear weapons in the world (5th april). The Palace belongs to the
most beautiful renaissance houses in Prague that date back to the half of the
XVIth Century.
It was build by the Martinic family which died out at the end of 18th century. At the end of 19th century obout 70 families lived there! After political changes in 1848 was the palace nationalized and in private property is again since 2002 and is used also for public accasions.
By the end of 20th century it was find out, that Jaroslav Bořita from Martinice built the building in the same space order as is the King palace on the Prague castle, only in the half scale.
In the palace will be held the cultural event.
